David Watson: Project 52 Week 2

I spent this week making a list of as many ideas I could think of, so when I got to the weekend I would at least have something to work from. I've always wanted to take some black and white shots of my bass guitar to use as a desktop wallpaper, this is the one I liked best Week 2 - Bass

David Watson: New photo challenge

This year I have decided to start a new photo challenge, Project 52 - To post one photo a week for the whole year. I didn't give myself much time to get the first photo shot, so I looked around the house for something interesting. In the end I settled on using my Wife's Jelly bean dispenser. So now I have started, only 51 more photos to go. If you are starting a similar photo challenge, let me know. I'd like to follow along and get some fresh ideas, then steal them. ;-) Week 1 - Cinnamon Update: Just noticed that comments weren't working, they are fixed now.

David Watson: Photo Scope android app released

I have now released an android app I have been working on recently. Photo Scope allows you to take photos with your phone and keep track of where each one was taken, so you can return when you have your camera or maybe when the weather is better and take the perfect shot. You can take a look here for more details.

David Watson: 7 Day Photo Challenge - Day 6

Really ran short on time today, which I think is reflected in todays image. In the end I just played around using the contents of my pockets. Home From Work I think I'd better start planning for tomorrow.

Steve Kemp: Are you sure you don't mind me going without you?

Recently I received a small flurry of patches to my blog compiler, from Chris Frey. These patches significantly speedup rebuilding a static blog when using Danga's memcached. The speedup is sufficiently fast that my prior SQLite based approach is no longer required - and (re)building my blog now takes on the order of 5 seconds. On the topic of other people's blogs I've been enjoying David Watson's recent photo challenge. I was almost tempted to join in, but I'm not sure I could manage one every day - Although I can pretend I recently carried out my my first real photoshoot. I'm still taking pictures of "things/places" but I'm starting to enjoy "people" more. With a bit of luck I'll get some more people to pose in the near future, even if I have to rely upon posting to gumtree for local bodies! ObFilm: Love Actually

David Watson: 7 Day Photo Challenge - Day 1

I have challenged myself to take a photo every day this week starting today, I am doing this to force myself to spend less time working on my photos ( and to publish pictures more often). I generally spend too much time playing with photos and seldom actually put them online for any one to see. Here is todays shot of a rose I took this afternoon. IMG_1966 I would love to have people join me in this challenge, so I have created a flickr group for it.

David Watson: Latest Shots

I took my newly purchased 50mm f1.8 lens to the Chinese New Year celebrations in Liverpool, I have uploaded a few shots to flickr. I'm still getting used to getting my composition right without being able to alter the focal length. Update: Fixed the white balance on the images to remove the blue tint.

David Watson: Operation DSLR is underway

After getting back from a holiday where I got quite annoyed by my point-and-shoot camera, I have decided to get back into photography again (yet another expensive hobby). I am planning to buy myself a Canon 450D DSLR, so I'm having a fund raising ebay adventure starting with my nokia N810. So if you are interested in buying one head on over to http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130291802752 and have a look.

David Watson: Packaging workflow

After watching the Packaging with version control systems talk by Martin F. Krafft ( thanks debconf video team ). I really want to update my packaging workflow, Martin's workflow seems too complicated to me. I'd like to have a simplified version for my packages. The question is though which VCS do I choose, I have experience of bzr but have never used git or mercurial. Changing my packaging workflow is not something I want to be doing too often, so I would like to make the "right" choice from the outset. So to that end I will be trying each major Distributed VCS, and looking at the associated packaging helpers to decide on which to use. If you have any insight or opinions on this, please leave a comment or mail me.

David Watson: Thanks Guys

Just over three weeks ago I started a new job, I left my position as a Network Manager to start a job as a Linux Consultant. On my last day I was given a rather generous collection from everyone there. The purpose of this post is to show everyone that the money was well spent, the picture shows the books and DVDs that I bought. Thanks guys.
